The Suitlandfest
Community Impact Framework

9 Pillars.png

About Us

For more than 30 years, SuitlandFest Community Development Corporation, The New Suitland Recreation Council, and A Basket of Cheer have served as trusted community anchors dedicated to improving the quality of life for youth, families, seniors, veterans, nonprofit organizations, and underserved residents throughout Prince George’s County and neighboring communities.

What began as a commitment to community service and a local community celebration has evolved into a year-round network of programs, partnerships, and support services. Together, our organizations help residents overcome challenges, access essential resources, develop valuable skills, and pursue opportunities that strengthen families and create brighter futures for generations to come.

At the center of this work is the SuitlandFest Community Development Corporation’s Community Impact Initiative Hub a comprehensive 2026–2030 framework designed to support sustained investment, measurable impact, and long-term community growth.

Working alongside residents, businesses, nonprofit and faith-based organizations, educational institutions, healthcare providers, recreation centers, public-safety agencies, government entities, and community leaders, we connect people with opportunities in food security, health and wellness, education, workforce development, financial empowerment, arts and culture, crisis response, senior and veteran services, sports, and recreation.

Our annual SuitlandFest remains the flagship celebration of this work the signature moment when all nine pillars come to life in one community-wide event. However, the Community Impact Initiative Hub represents the full scope of our year-round commitment. Our work extends far beyond a single festival and supports sustained, meaningful community transformation throughout the year.

Today, SuitlandFest Community Development Corporation serves as a connector, convener, advocate, and catalyst for positive change. We are committed to ensuring that:

  • Families have access to food, essential resources, and stabilization services.

  • Residents can participate in preventive health, wellness, and fitness initiatives.

  • Young people receive education, mentorship, enrichment, leadership development, and career exposure.

  • Seniors and veterans remain supported, connected, recognized, and valued.

  • Residents gain access to technology, artificial intelligence education, digital literacy, and workforce-development opportunities.

  • Individuals, families, and entrepreneurs strengthen their financial knowledge and economic mobility.

  • Artists, cultural traditions, community stories, and local heritage are preserved and celebrated.

  • Individuals and families experiencing crises receive coordinated assistance and pathways toward recovery.

  • Youth, adults, seniors, and families have inclusive opportunities to participate in sports, recreation, mentorship, and community wellness.

Guided by service, partnership, innovation, inclusion, and community empowerment, we continue building sustainable pathways toward opportunity, resilience, stability, and generational impact.

Our Community Impact Framework

The Community Impact Initiative Hub is organized around nine interconnected pillars, with each pillar representing an ongoing area of year-round programming supported by dedicated partners, sponsors, and community stakeholders.

Supporting families through emergency food assistance, fresh-produce distributions, holiday meal programs, community food initiatives, family-support services, and resource navigation.

2. Health & Wellness

3. Youth Development & Education

Preparing future leaders through youth leadership programs, educational enrichment, mentoring initiatives, workforce-readiness activities, summer programming, scholarships, and career awareness.

4. Senior & Veteran Support

Honoring and supporting seniors and veterans through community-engagement opportunities, wellness programming, resource referrals, recognition programs, emergency assistance, and senior-enrichment initiatives.

5. Technology & AI Workforce Development

Closing opportunity gaps through digital-literacy training, artificial-intelligence education, technology-access initiatives, workforce-development programs, entrepreneur-support services, and innovation workshops.

6. Financial Literacy & Economic Empowerment

Building community wealth through financial education, entrepreneurship training, small-business development, workforce-advancement opportunities, economic-empowerment initiatives, and resource navigation.

7. Arts, Culture & Community Heritage

Celebrating identity and history through cultural festivals, music and performing arts, heritage preservation, community storytelling, intergenerational engagement, and public-arts programming.

8. Crisis Response & Community Support

Providing help when it matters most through emergency-assistance coordination, community outreach, family-stabilization support, resource referrals, crisis-intervention services, and collaborative service delivery.

9. Sports & Recreation — Hosted by H.T.C.

Strengthening the community through organized sports, fitness programs, mentorship, recreational activities, clinics, tournaments, adaptive recreation, and community-wellness events that promote teamwork, discipline, leadership, confidence, and positive social connection.
